A Gluten-Free Approach to AI

A Gluten-Free Approach to AI

AI is the latest buzzword in technology. It seems like every application has AI capabilities that will make work and life easier. AI was designed to enhance efficiency and productivity. But when it comes to security, are organizations really prepared for AI?

Tego hosted a panel of experts in a discussion focused on AI security earlier this week. The panel included Adam Herbert from Arctic Wolf and Greg Manson and Dylan Nickels from Tego.

Here are a few highlights from our discussion:

  • AI, with its potential to automate processes and applications, offers a promising future in security. However, it’s important to be aware that threat actors can also use it. Thanks to generative AI, phishing attacks, for instance, have become more sophisticated, making it even more challenging to determine if the email is legitimate. While it’s not feasible to prevent every attack, having a robust recovery plan should be a key part of your security strategy. Secure and reliable backups that are tested regularly and a clear understanding of your Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) are critical to swift recovery from an attack.
  • AI can be a powerful Security Operations Center (SOC) tool. It can help manage alert fatigue and automate routine tasks. By analyzing file access patterns and detecting anomalies, it can take action against threats. However, it’s crucial to continuously train the AI models to ensure they make the right decisions.
  • ISO 42001 and NIST AI Risk Management Framework (RMF) are important frameworks that dictate the use of AI. ISO 27001 is focused on the implementation and ethical use of AI. NIST AI RMF provides a structured approach to help organizations manage security and privacy risks related to systems and applications using AI. Many organizations need to be aware that these frameworks exist and should learn more about them to protect their environment.

As we gear up for Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, we invite you to stay connected with us on our social media platforms. We’ll be sharing a wealth of information and tips on AI security, including some valuable insights from CISA on AI security.
